Those of us involved in Global Health are deeply committed to international service. The ServiceWorld Initiative is an effort to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Peace Corps by realizing President Kennedy’s original vision of sending 100,000 volunteers to serve abroad each year. Please join us in supporting the future of international service by signing the ServiceWorld International Service Declaration and endorsing ServiceWorld.

It’s great to see CFHI’s support of OurServiceWorld.org. I believe that as a result of the experiences I’ve gained from CFHI’s Delhi, India program, I recognize the importance of the word “service” and what it implies in developing countries. In developing countries, service does not only mean provision and administration of various services (healthcare, education, etc.), it means cultural and social awareness of the clients’ conditions and needs. Service means being able to listen and empathize, and to advocate for basic necessities. Equipped with this understanding of what service truly means, I am convinced that others who will cross borders for volunteer work will also gain this valuable insight of the true meaning of service and its rewards.
