Virtual Global & Public Health Internship - Uganda
The Virtual Global & Public Health Internship in Uganda offers undergraduate, pre-health, and graduate-level participants the unique opportunity to learn foundational, industry-specific skills for careers in Global Health, Public Health, and related fields. Through virtual seminars and meetings, interns will explore how communities in southwest Uganda are addressing their most pressing health challenges including HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases, maternal & child health, and nutrition. Interns will have the opportunity to network with healthcare providers and NGO professionals who are working to improve clinical and public health outcomes in Uganda.

- Competency-informed readings and content
- Intercultural training through CFHI partner Aperian Global
- Virtual sessions led by CFHI Global Partners, who are experts in local health systems and culture
- Facilitated group reflection sessions
- Cultural learning/virtual immersion
- Seminars on health topics
- Depending on the location, this may include project-based work to deepen understanding of local health realities and support operations and objectives of the host organization/partners
The Virtual Global & Public Health Internship is an unpaid experience. Student fees will be used to compensate CFHI's Global Partners-- in line with our Fair Trade commitment.
Duration
Dr. Geoffrey Anguyo- CFHI Kabale, Uganda Medical Director: The role of CFHI Medical Director is to arrange clinical and public health placements, supervise participant experiences at these sites, provide weekly lectures, and assist in medical issues experienced by participants. The CFHI Medical Director is the expert on socioeconomic determinants of health in the region and healthcare delivery strategies in low-resource settings.
Dr. Anguyo is the Founder/Executive Director of CFHI’s local partner, a Ugandan non-profit organization that prides itself on the creation of an “Activated Community." Dr. Anguyo has been practicing medicine for over twenty years in Uganda, working in government hospitals, private clinics, and through non-profit healthcare delivery. His specialty is HIV/AIDS. Dr. Anguyo grew up in Northern Uganda. As a child, his family was displaced by political violence, fleeing to Congo DRC. These early experiences were formative, and today Dr. Anguyo remains committed to developing practical solutions to improving healthcare and livelihood in Uganda. Dr. Anguyo is currently working on his Doctorate in Public Health at Bath University in the United Kingdom.
This internship includes live sessions and self-paced, individual work. Interns will engage in approximately 10 hours per week of live Zoom sessions, including meetings with partners in Uganda and interactive seminars and workshops to improve foundational knowledge, skills, and attitudes in Global Health. Interns can also expect an additional 10-15 hours per week of self-paced trainings and project-based work.

Language Required: English
Uganda's national language is English, and CFHI's in-country partners speak English fluently.
