AMSA Global Health Scholarship

Child Family Health International is entering into its 26th year.  In alignment with our commitment to delivering the best global health programs, we are excited to present the CFHI AMSA Global Health Scholarship.  We give away three $1000 awards annually. AMSA - American Medical Student Association is the oldest and largest independent association of physicians-in-training in the United States. Today, AMSA is a student-governed, national organization committed to representing the concerns of physicians-in-training.

Eligibility: Any student currently enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or post-graduate program who plans to participate in a CFHI program from October 2019 onward. Applicant must be an AMSA member.  Student must also demonstrate a proven commitment to global health and accurately portray how a CFHI program will make her/him a better future physician.

How to apply: Applicants will be asked to upload the following:

1. Scholarship essay

2. Letter of recommendation (professional or academic)

3. Personal CV (Curriculum Vitae)

Deadline for sumbission: December 1, 2019 for any 4+week Immersion Program starting during or after January 2020 

Award Details: The student will be selected to receive a $1000 award that will go toward the program fee for a CFHI Global Health Education Program. See all program options here

2018 Winners: 

Sara Fassio is a 4th year medical student at the University of North Texas Health Science Center. She received her undergraduate degrees in Microbiology and Spanish from Oregon State University, where she participated in a CFHI program in Ecuador as a premed. Her interests lie in women's health, advocacy, and global health with the goal of improving access to care and addressing healthcare disparities. She will be participating in the Hospital Medicine in Latin America program in Córdoba, Argentina. 

Paul Chakkaphak is a first year medical student at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is from Jacksonville, FL and received his undergraduate degree in Neuroscience from Vanderbilt University. After completing his degree, Paul worked in several fields before discovering an interest in medicine while traveling in various parts of Texas and northern Mexico. He is passionate about using his medical degree as a means to serve those disadvantaged and medically-underserved communities which first inspired him. He will be participating in the Intensive Beginner Spanish and Healthcare Program in Oaxaca, Mexico, with the goal of better preparing himself to work with Spanish speaking patients in his future practice.
