One of the original team members, Ewen Wang M.D., an Associate Professor
of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Stanford University, returned to Puerto
Escondido on October 21st, 2007 to oversee two pediatric life support trainings, which
will benefit at least 38 local healthcare staff.
The train-the-trainer model is an example of the type of sustainable community-focused programming that CFHI aims to support.
And more recently...
In May 2008,
Mark Corden, MD (right) came into our office in San Francisco to brief us on
his trip to Puerto Escondido, where he engaged in further pediatric
emergency medicine (PEM) trainings. Mark is a third-year pediatric
resident and friend and mentee of Dr. Wang. |

During his month-long stay in Puerto, he was able to teach 14 PEM classes to about 450 people. He plans to visit Bolivia in the near future to offer similar PEM trainings.
In 2010 and 2011, Dr. Corden also taught several PALS courses, in coordination with the Bolivian Pediatric Association, in La Paz, Bolivia. |
