This project is led by Dr. SM Dabak and the CFHI Local Teamin India.
Dr. Dabak recently retired as Head of the Department and Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology from BJ Medical College in Pune. Dr. Dabak has a wide clinical and administrative experience spanning 30 years, during which he managed a department of 50 senior consultants and more than 40 postgraduate students. He has also worked as the head of the Reproductive and Child Health Programme, Family Welfare Department, Indian Council of Medical Research, Indira Gandhi National Open University- Post Graduate Diploma in Mother and Child Health Programme, IPAS project (USA), Clinical Director PPTCT project JHU, BWI, USA, Founder trustee of Umada.
Introduction
Protecting youth against various social and sexual risks by providing education and outreach
Description
The 'Catch Them Young' initiative will provide training and education to youth in Pawananagar. The initiative aims to target 2,000 adolescents between the ages of 12 and 20 out of a total population of 20,000.
The initiative aims to protect these young against the risks of drug and alcohol abuse, teenage pregnancy, and sexually transmitted disease by education and outreach in the form of trainings and workshops. These workshops will include anatomical and physiological information, as well as sex education.
The funding provided by CFHI will go towards the employment of a local community health worker, and a local project coordinator, in addition to providing transportation, meeting expenses, and honorarium to local speakers.
