During November of 2006, Tim Harris, a student at Oregon State
University, contacted the Recover Program Coordinator about securing
medical supply and equipment donations for the St.
Albert's Mission
Hospital in Zimbabwe where
he was going to volunteer during December of 2006. He had heard about the
hospital and about Dr. Tarira through a guest lecturer, Darrell Ward, who is the
author of "The AmFar AIDS Handbook: the complete guide to understanding HIV and
AIDS."

Even though the focus of CFHI's Recover program is to collect unused medical supplies and small medical equipment locally, and send them to CFHI partner clinics and hospitals worldwide first, we do help other organizations and efforts occasionally based on a number of factors, if there are excess medical supplies.
After evaluating Tim's request for medical supply donations on behalf of the St. Albert's Mission Hospital in Zimbabwe, CFHI agreed to send a couple of boxes of basic medical supplies and equipment such
as Gloves, Syringes, Sutures, Needles, IV Sets, Surgical Drapes, Dressings and
Irrigation Sets, to Tim, which he carried down to Zimbabwe during his volunteer
work at Zimbabwe. Tim contacted CFHI in early January 2007, with a letter from Dr.
Tarira, thanking CFHI for our medical supply donations, and with pictures of the
donated supplies being greeted by the staff with smiles and thanks. Given how useful the supplies were to the hospital, Tim Harris passed on
information about CFHI to 2 other students from Johns Hopkins
School of Nursing, who were planning to
volunteer at the St. Albert's Mission Hospital during the summer of 2007. Sarah
Burney and Chris Howell contacted CFHI in early May about securing medical supply
donations and we sent them more boxes of supplies which
they carried to the hospital. After their return to the US, they sent
more pictures showing how useful the supplies sent by CFHI were to address the
health care needs of the patients treated at the hospital.

The total value of the supplies CFHI has sent through students from Johns Hopkins School of Nursing to Zimbabwe is $1,887.44

Sarah and Chris plan on passing on information about the St.
Albert's Mission Hospital to their classmates at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, and will pass
on information about the Recover program to them to ensure that the hospital
receives more vital, useful medical supply donations.
